Hello! Welcome back for our Weekly One Reason to Get an RV inspection. Today I’m inspecting a brand new Class A gas motorhome, with an MSRP of over $250,000. This RV was inspected by the manufacturer. It was also PDI’d (Pre-Delivery Inspection) here at the dealership. I’m going to prove that to you here real quick so let’s walk around to the stickers that show that.
Right here we have the “okay to ship” inspected sticker with a date of 3/25/22 that’s from the factory. This thing was built in March; it was inspected at the factory in March.
Let’s go to the other side of the RV. I have the dealership sticker showing that on 4/19/22 it was inspected here.
What Did We Find?
So that was three days ago. Today’s April 22nd. This RV is less than a month old and I’m just getting started. I picked out something that is really important.
If you don’t know about the National Fire Protection Agency’s 1192 Standards for Recreational Vehicles, it states that the grommet in the water heater needs to be sealed completely to prevent CO from getting into the RV.
There’s a rubber grommet that goes around the propane line and it needs to have sealant all the way around it. We’re going to peak in here at this rubber grommet.
You see that rubber grommet right there? Do you see the gap at the top of it? You can see right through that thing.
Carbon monoxide is dangerous, folks! You can’t smell it. It can kill you. It’ll suffocate you. So that’s why the National Fire Protection Agency says… Hey, that should be sealed!
Brand new RV, less than a month old, inspected at the factory, inspected at the dealership and they still miss that. That’s just one of the many, many things that we look at on these RVs.
