DRAINING HOT WATER SOURCES IN YOUR RV/HIGH TEMPS

During the last week I have inspected two coaches for buyers. Both inspections were done in west Texas and the heat was over 100 degrees during both inspections.  Part of the inspection process includes checking the freshwater system, including any on-board filters.  While doing this I found the water contained in the bowl of the house water filter was bathwater hot.  In one coach the refrigerator was off and the water in the ice maker filter was also very warm. Returning home to El Paso, we left our coach parked in the driveway for 1.5 days with everything off.  Knowing the coach was going to be parked for several months (no planned travel this summer), I found the water in the freshwater tank to be warm, the water the on-board water filter to be very hot as well as the water in the refrigerator filter to be warm.  If you are parking your coach for any length of time this summer in an area of high heat you might consider these steps, even if only parking for a few days.  Drain your freshwater tank, open all of your low point drains, drain your water heater (a good time to inspect your anode rod if you have one).  Open your on-board water filter case, drain and remove the filter (a good time to inspect the filter and replace as necessary).  Turning off your refrigerator?  Remove the ice maker tray and towel dry the inside of the icemaker and components, remove the refrigerator filter and towel dry the filter compartment, towel dry the inside of your refrigerator, leave the doors cracked open, and put in a small amount of coffee (in a container) in the refrigerator and freezer compartment.  Ground coffee absorbs odors.  Removing water during high heat days will help to eliminate growth of water contaminants.
