Completing a Company Profile

HomeGauge RV Inspector Dashboard Company Profile Transcript:

Welcome back. Okay. Now that I’ve given an overview of the Inspector Dashboard, it’s time to start building a Company Profile. HomeGauge populates this information to lots of different places on the Inspector Dashboard and in the Desktop Software. On the main menu on the left, I’ll click on profile, then profile/contact info. In the upper right corner of the page, I can click on the View My Company Profile link. I didn’t complete my profile, so a lot of the information is what is created by default by HomeGauge. For example, the listing text under my name uses the words home and property inspection. I will be updating the listing text as well as the description and qualifications to serve me as an RV inspector.

Also, I don’t see a logo or profile picture and my current website address is my HomeGauge company profile address. Whether I click the back button in my browser or click the Edit My Profile button, I am directed to the profile contact info page. The company profile is displayed on the search results page that I looked at in a previous lesson. There are two links under the header on this page.

The first link takes me to the Update Your Information page to update my username and password. The second link gives me an explanation of how the zip code search works. Now I want to update a couple things. Even though I only have one phone number, I want to copy and paste that number to the mobile phone number text box, so HomeGauge can populate it properly depending on which merge fields they use. Also, I’m going to copy my website address from my homepage, which reduces spelling and typing errors. I happen to have our website open in another tab, so all I need to do is highlight the name in the address bar and then click right to copy. I’ll return to my HomeGauge dashboard tab, highlight the current website address, right click and paste to insert the correct website address. Now that I’ve double checked my info, I select the box to Show Profile in Search Results, then click Save Changes. I’ll click on the link to view my company profile and I can see that my website address is updated.

Next. I click Company Logo in the main menu. This logo is used in various places, including the search results page on the HomeGauge website, in merge fields in documents and notification emails, as well as on the Buyer Dashboard near the ratings widget. It also shows up on the upper left side of the report header bar of the finished reports when customers are viewing their inspection reports.

This logo must be a JPEG or GIF format and be less than 2 megabytes in size. I’ll click on Choose File and navigate to a folder where I have these logos and pictures saved. Select the image and click open and now I see the file name HomeGauge/ My RV Resource.jpeg, then I’ll click Save Changes. To finish the upload process, I hover the cursor in the upper left corner of the image, then hold the left button on my mouse to drag over the image towards the lower right corner. I can fine tune the selected area when I release the left mouse button and then drag any of the tiny boxes to resize. When I click save changes, I can see a preview and if I want to edit it in the future, I just click Choose File or Delete Logo.

Moving right along, I’ll click Inspector Photo and select it using the same process. Now, lots of people don’t like themselves in pictures and don’t really want pictures out there.

I challenge you to think of it this way, it’s really nice for customers who aren’t present at their inspections to put a face with the voice or email they’ve been corresponding with. An inspector photo automatically shows up in the buyer dashboard which customers will use to sign agreements and view their reports.

When set up properly, it will show up in email signatures as well as in agreement templates and notification templates. The profile picture also shows up in the upper right side of the report header bar of the finished reports with the contact info, and then you can use it in time-released messaging as well.

Jason and I put our logo in picture as many places as possible because it’s great branding for our business. Don’t worry, I’ll be explaining this stuff in more detail as we move through the course. Choose file. Then select the image. Then click open, then click save changes, then click and drag to crop the picture.

Now I’ll click Additional Picture in the main menu, which is a good place for an organization logo like NRVIA or RVIA Registered Tech logos, or anything else I want to showcase on my HomeGauge company profile.

The other option on this page is the ability to change the Report Header Color. I mentioned the report header bar a minute ago and this is where to make changes to the color of the header bar on my finished online reports. The default color for the banner is white with black letters. Later, when we talk about print options, I may want to change this banner depending on the format and style I choose. Remember not to pick a light color because the text that will be displayed inside the header is white.

Click on the color dot to open a color palette that has a code at the bottom. For now, I’ll pick this red and notice that the code is #FF0000. That code may mean something in the computer programming world, but to me, I just picked a contrast in color. Also I’m not sure why this is a thing or why it’s in the additional picture tab. Now I’ll remember to click Save Changes.

Okay, next I’ll click on Qualifications and Description link under profile in the main menu. Notice these text boxes are blank, yet when I click View My Company Profile, the default text from HomeGauge appears, a little quirk in the system to require you to create original content, I guess.

These can be a little tricky because they need to be short and don’t have much formatting available. Qualifications can only be 120 characters max and the short description can only be 240 characters max. They are both displayed on the search results page and My Company Profile page. I played around several times toggling back and forth between viewing and editing until I got a format that I liked and that was clear and concise.

I’m going to copy and paste mine from a document I previously opened to make it easy. I’ll click Save Changes, then click View My Company Profile to see how it looks. Notice I used asterix to separate my texts, but feel free to play around with yours until you like the way it looks.

Now, I’m going to create my Listing Text, so I’ll click that link under Profile in the main menu. This information will only be displayed on the Company Profile page. Here I have as much room as I need to pitch customers on my services and can include a link to my website as well. To be clear though, the website will automatically populate on the left side of the Company Profile page so I don’t need to necessarily included here.

Here is the first example of a text box with some formatting options like bold, italics and underline. The text that is inputted can be justified left, center or right. And I can create bulleted or numbered lists as well as having undo or redo as options.

Once again, I’ll paste my text to save a little time. To create a link to my website, I’m going to highlight My RV Inspection and click on the link button which is the second button from the right. In the pop-up window, notice the display text is already populated. All I need to do is click on the tab with my website and copy it again, then returned to my dashboard and paste it in the URL text box and click Okay. The black text I typed has changed to the typical blue underlined text, indicating a link. I’ll click Save Changes and to check my work, I’ll click View My Company Profile, then click the link, and it worked.

Back to my Dashboard, Edit My profile, the next thing I need to do is link my social media accounts so HomeGauge can auto-populate the links onto my finished reports and onto the Buyer Dashboard as yet another way to get free marketing of my brand. I’ll click Edit My Profile, click Social Networks and since I already have my website copied, I’ll skip to the second text box and paste it here.

I have another tab open with our business Facebook account. So I’ll click that and copy the link in the address bar. I’ll click back to the HomeGauge tab and paste my business Facebook address in the first text box on the social networks page. We don’t currently have a Twitter, LinkedIn or Active Rain account or a YouTube channel, but if you have any of these, I recommend linking them here as well. I’ll click Save Changes, then click View My Company Profile to see all the updates I’ve made. Notice the Facebook icon.

Finally, I’ll click Edit My Profile again and under the profile link, I’ll click on Update Searchable Counties. To show up on the search results page in HomeGauge, I’ll first select Florida as my state and click Add County Coverage. Then I can choose the counties in my state and I can also choose multiple states, if necessary. As an example, I’ll choose Hillsborough, Polk and Pinellas and click Finish.

Currently, most potential customers are not using HomeGauge to search for RV inspectors. However, with the amount of excellent feedback we’ve been getting from customers about our software and the quality of our reports, it may not be long into the future that some potential customers may specifically look for inspectors using HomeGauge. Who knows what the future holds. Plus I’ll take a lead wherever I can get it.
